Vintage uranium glass and emerald green rhinestone riviere style necklace - fabulous crystal stones that glow under UV light

Vintage uranium glass green crystal rhinestone collar necklace with lovely geometric, faceted rhinestones set in gold tone. This type of glass is amazing as in the natural light, the princess cut (square) rhinestones are a pretty light luminescent yellow/green colour. However under UV light, the glass gives off a 'radioactive' looking glow.

Uranium glass is glass which has had uranium, usually in oxide diuranate form, added to a glass mix before melting. The proportion usually varies from trace levels to about 2% uranium by weight.

This is a collector's piece as well as fun piece to be wearing in a club or party with UV lights. The necklace fastens with a simple hook clasp and has a maximum length of about 18 inches - which can be shortened by up to 2 inches if the clasp is attached a little higher up the opposing length of extension chain.

The necklace is in good vintage condition - please look at the photos carefully. There is definitely a square rhinestone that has been replaced right next to the hook clasp - easy to tell as the colour match is not quit right and it is not uranium glass. I believe there are also replacement stones within the emerald green navette / marquise cut stones, as there are slight tonal differences - have a look at the photos, but it looks well done.
