Vintage sterling silver Art Deco diamond ice clear crystal square rhinestone riviere choker necklace and brooch set, bezel set, open backed, by W H Collins

Vintage sterling silver clear princess cut (square) crystal paste riviere necklace and brooch set - Art Deco or possibly earlier (Edwardian or 1920s). Lovely sized sparkling clear crystal square rhinestones, bezel and claw set in lovely open-backed sterling silver raised settings. The necklace fastens with a spring ring clasp and has a length of about 18 inches. This can be worn a little shorter using the lengths of chain on either side of the clasp as extension chains.

In the necklace, the two settings on either side of the clasp are stamped - one with 'sterling silver' and the other with 'PAT 311897'. The brooch has a length of 1.75 inches and a width of just under 1 inch. The brooch is not stamped or hallmarked but has been tested as sterling silver. It fastens with a simple, antique C clasp and pin.

This patent was granted on 23rd May 1929 to a jeweller called Walter Henry Collins. The last picture shows the patent drawings and how the construction was achieved.
