Vintage signed Monet necklace and bracelet set beautiful tigers eye gemstone half moon cabochon Art Deco design
Fabulous set from quality makers Monet probably from around the 1980s, in Art Deco revival geometric half moon shapes set in a very pale, shiny gold tone. There is necklace and bracelet, both lovely and weighty, with lovely striations in each tiger's eye cabochon. Each piece is stamped 'MONET' on the reverse. For me, this is one of those sets that is underrated by collectors, as the quality of the construction of each weighty piece is really top notch. The Deco design is completely timeless to me as an Art Deco fan.
The necklace has a diameter of 5 inches (so just under 16 inches around the circumference) and fastens with a secure hinged clasp. The bracelet is about 8 inches in length and also fastens with a secure fold-over clasp. This set is in good vintage condition - no wear to the necklace, and a little wear to the gold tone on the reverse of the bracelet near and on the clasp.
Michael and Jay Chernow were brothers who first named the company Monocraft Products Company. Their first items included handbags with monograms and gold-plated appliqués. With the onset of the Great Depression, a new marketing strategy and product line was born: Monet Jewellery. In 1929 the brand targeted its efforts on crafting custom-designed women’s jewellery. The goal was to target jewellery consumers seeking affordable, high-end looking pieces. Items in the catalogue included necklaces, brooches, bracelets, and earrings. However, it wasn’t until 1937 when Monet started marketing their designs.
