Vintage signed Exquisite carnation clip earrings, birthday flower series, pale gold tone, hand-painted enamel, month of October

Lovely example of the hard to find carnation design clip-on earings produced and signed by Exquisite of Solihull (WAP Watson company) in the 1950s. They are hand-painted in shades of pink and green cold-painted enamel and are set in a light gold tone. Each earring is about 1 inch long and about 3/4 inch wide.

The Exquisite maker produced a wide range of these pieces - whole sets of clip on earrings, brooches in two sizes, bracelets and necklaces - with different hand-painted flowers for each birthday month (see below for list of months and flowers). This one is for birthdays in the month of October and would have originally included a slip with the phrase 'May this token remind you of a very happy occasion'. The pieces are very collectable and each flower is hard to find in earrings.

One is signed 'exquisite' on the back and one is stamped with the letters 'REGd' to show that Exquisite was a registered trademark, They are in very good vintage condition - the cold painted enamel is in lovely condition which can be unusual. The pale gold tone on the reverse looks silver in appearance in places and in some lights, whereas the clips themselves are definitely a gold / brass colour.
