Vintage mesh chainmail gold tone concertina gate top beggar’s purse design reticule handbag, possibly Whiting and Davis but unsigned

Vintage concertina gate top chatelaine beggar's purse style reticule handbag on a long should chain - a beautiful, heavy mesh chain mail purse / bag in stunning shiny gold tone. It has the cleverly designed concertina gate top with a hinged lid with circular grooves.

It is an example of a design produced by quality makers Whiting and Davis. There is no signature or stamp on this piece however. They often had a fabric label sewn into the lining inside, so these do become detached and get lost.

The golden coloured fabric lining is in very good vintage condition, as is the mesh chainmail itself. The long should or cross-body chain strap is a fancy link gold tone chain with a long length of about 48 inches.
