Vintage early Miriam Haskell jade green and orange poured glass beaded and gold tone Egyptian revival fringe necklace with book chain links
Vintage poured glass jade green melon bead and topaz orange bead fringe necklace with gold tone book chain links. This is an early piece from Miriam Haskell - 1920s to 1940s therefore unsigned. The detail of the intricate workmanship, particularly the fringe design with a book chain collar and French poured glass beads are typical of Miriam Haskell pieces while designers such as Frank Hess were working for her. She liked to used these colours - bright green, orange and gold - in her early pieces and this is a quality piece with beautiful beads that are in very good condition.
The gold tone, geometric, stylised arrow head pieces are really interesting and give an ethnic feel to the concept. The necklace has a length around the neck of about 16 inches and fastens with a characteristic Haskell spring ring clasp. A dear friend and Haskell afficionado taught me that the spring clasps like this that do not have a little lever sticking out really help to confirm that they are Haskell pieces.
A beautiful and extremely collectable necklace in stunning colours that is in good vintage condition. It is offered in a vintage hinged jewellery box with satin lining, as pictured. The only minor issues to note are that one side of the book chain link sections is slightly longer than the other, and that two of the green beads (to the left) have been secured in place with tiny clear glass beads beneath to avoid the wire sliding through the slightly-too-large bead holes. These aspects of the piece can be seen clearly in the pictures.
