Vintage snake/serpent head statement lariat necklace - a costume version of a Victorian fine jewellery piece with real gold, emeralds, diamonds and rubies, an example of which can be seen here: https://www.invaluable.com/auction-lot/victorian-love-necklace-ca-1840-1850-231-c-30e41dbbd4.

Queen Victoria put snake jewellery under the fashion spotlight when Prince Albert bought her a snake engagement ring, with an emerald (her birthstone) embedded into it, accenting the creature's head.

This necklace consists of gold tone snake chain with a hook at one end that attaches to a detailed snake, serpent or dragon head and pendant piece at the other. The detailed design is finished with green, red and clear chaton cut rhinestones as well as green princess cut (square) rhinestones.

The piece is of a lovely quality, with well finished and moulded embellishments. I wish I knew who produced it - it reminds me of pieces from Joseff of Hollywood and Askew London, but is not signed or stamped.

It has a length around the neck of about 18 inches and fastens by simply hooking one end into the other. This is an absolutely showstopping necklace in very good vintage condition.

Brooches and pendants can also be found, for example:
