Vintage Butler and Wilson B&W huge and heavy signed snake / serpent / eel design silver tone chrome statement necklace and brooch set
Vintage Butler and Wilson B&W huge and heavy signed snake / serpent / eel design silver tone chrome statement necklace and brooch set
Fabulous signed Butler & Wilson heavy silver tone snake / serpent design choker necklace and huge brooch set. The set is not modern - it is from an older time period (I suspect 1980s) but I have included a more modern Butler and Wilson pink presentation box to keep the pieces safe.
The design is gorgeous - to me a pure Art Nouveau moving into Art Deco machine age influenced feel. This design is very hard to find - the only examples I have seen are versions of the brooch, but usually in gold tone with various rhinestone decorations. I like the simplicity of the chrome in these pieces.
The necklace has a choker length of about 16 inches and fastens with a push-in box clasp hidden in the thick double snake chain section at the back. The brooch is also big and weighty, measuring just over 3 inches by just over 2 inches. The pieces are in very good vintage condition.
In 1969, Nicky Butler and Simon Wilson began selling antique jewellery from their stand in their Antiquarius Market in the King's Road, Chelsea. In 1972 they opened their first shop on the Fulham Road and began adding their own designs, inspired by the vintage pieces they sold. Many famous people wear and have worn their designs, including Princess Diana, and the brand was a top seller in Harrods for many years.
