Vintage Art Deco galalith buckle with striking flame design and vibrant yellow, orange and red colours, can be worn as a statement pendant

Vintage Art Deco buckle with a stunning flame or perhaps stylised floral design made from beautifully moulded early plastic. My estimation is that the plastic pieces are galalith - an early casein-based plastic used a lot in European jewellery, particularly from Germany and France in the 1920s and 30s. These pieces are beautifully shaped and have a marbled effect in the vibrant yellow and orangey red tones.

This is such a statement piece in a large size, measuring about 4 inches by 3 inches. On the back it has brass fittings - two loops to which a belt can be attached and one hook and loop clasp to attach the two halves together.

I have shown how a necklace or chain can be attached to the belt loops so that the buckle could be worn as a giant pendant. Let me know if you would like the silver tone chain pictured included in the purchase, and if you would like its length altered.

The buckle is in excellent vintage condition, which is amazing given its age and the delicacy of the material.
