Vintage / antique huge ruby red cabochon, red, green & blue enamel filigree silver bracelet, Chinese export 'Peking style bracelet'
Beautiful vintage Chinese export silver bracelet encrusted with 'jewels of India' red cabochons and embellished with beautiful red, green and blue enamel cloisonne work on silver mesh/filigree panels. The back of each panel is stamped with the Chinese marks. Without stamps also in English, I believe this to be one of the earlier pieces from the end of the 19th to the beginning of the 20th century.
The bracelet has a length of 7.5 inches and fastens with a secure push-in clasp. The bracelet makes a dramatic and glamorous statement. It is in very good vintage condition.
The extremely popular bracelets with designs consisting of cloisonné set on top of mesh wire work and decorated with semi-precious stones have been called “Peking style bracelets”. These bracelets were made from the late 19th-early 20th century. Trade resumed between China and Western countries in 1971. The communist government required all their citizens to relinquish all of their personal silver jewellery and adornments. The citizens had to comply to show their patriotism. The government then sold all the jewellery to Western buyers.
