Rare large vintage sterling silver gilt bird brooch produced by Trifari for Ciro Pearls England, 1948 patent Alfred Philippe design
Rare large vintage sterling silver gilt bird brooch produced by Trifari for Ciro Pearls England, 1948 patent Alfred Philippe design
Large vintage brooch in the form of an adorable flying bird formed from gold plated or gilded sterling silver embellished with clear rhinestones. These are extremely collectable pieces. This one is stamped CP England for the Ciro Pearls company, but is a patented Alfred Philippe Trifari design from the 1940s.
This is a Trifari production of the patented 1948 Alfred Philippe design, for Ciro of Bond Street, a British company which had opened its first US branch on Fifth Ave in 1939, expanding to most major US cities by the 1960s. It put its stamp on pieces manufactured for it by DuJay, Mazer, Boucher and Trifari throughout that period. Despite the CP England stamp, it is probable this was manufactured by Trifari in the US. A picture of the patent application is included in the listing photos: designer Alfred Philippe, filed January 20, granted September 28 1948.
The quality of the piece is outstanding - it weighs 11 grams overall. The clear rhinestones have been beautifully set in the gold vermeil at just the same standard of fine jewellery gem settings. The brooch is in very good vintage condition - please examine the pictures carefully for a full condition report.
