Pair of antique cut steel brooches with lovely faceted polished steel cabochons. These are very old pieces (probably early 1800s Georgian to early Victorian) still in pretty good vintage condition. I love a pair of matching brooches as they are versatile and can be used as cloak or cardigan clips (with a length of chain attache to each pin) or as shoe or collar clips.
The pins are large and striking, each with a length of a touch over 2.5 inches and a width of 2 inches. The brooches fasten with secure pins and old C hook clasps.
Usually these cut steel panels, in which polished steel cabochons are riveted onto a base plate, were buckles for shoes and were often professionally converted into brooches when shoe buckles were no longer in fashion.
The condition of these two brooches is good for their age - please examine all photos and use the zoom tool to see a full condition report. There are signs of slight rust on the reverse of each, clearly shown in the pictures.
