Large vintage Butler and Wilson (B&W) signed shiny gold tone and rhinestone snake brooch
Huge vintage rhinestone and gold plate coiled snake brooch signed by iconic makers Butler and Wilson. This is a very Victorian revival glamour style piece, probably from the 1980s or thereabouts, and in a lovely large statement style. It has pave set clear rhinestones set in shiny gold tone. This stunning piece is signed on the reverse with the Butler and Wilson B&W circular panel / plate. The brooch is in good vintage condition - there are slight signs of ageing to the gold plate as might be expected, but all rhinestones are in place and sparkling well.
In 1969, Nicky Butler and Simon Wilson began selling antique jewellery from their stand in their Antiquarius Market in the King's Road, Chelsea. In 1972 they opened their first shop on the Fulham Road and began adding their own designs, inspired by the vintage pieces they sold. Many famous people wear and have worn their designs, including Princess Diana, and the brand was a top seller in Harrods for many years. I love this article about Diana's love of B&W jewellery alongside her precious gems: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-4773224/Diana-s-rainbow-rare-stones-favourites-fakes.html
