Huge vintage Apis sacred bull design brooch Art Deco Egyptian revival, emerald green rose cut rhinestones Max Neiger or Joseff of Hollywood?
Early Art Deco Egyptian revival design brooch with beautiful moulded antique silver tone base with emerald green rose cut rhinestones. The design includes a ring of bulls representing Apis the sacred bull in Ancient Egyptian mythology. The central green paste stone is absolutely huge, as is the brooch overall.
My first judgement was that it is a Max and Norbert Neiger piece, as the quality is so good and the design so beautiful. However, I cannot find other examples of this particular casting in other Neiger pieces. The only other possibility I could see was that it is a Joseff of Hollywood piece - the stones and their settings are perhaps more in line with this option. However the simple hook clasp on the back seems older than a Joseff piece. If anyone can help me with definitive identification, please do message me!
This piece is very large with a longer length of 3 inches and a height of 2.5 inches. Interestingly, it fastens with a simple hook clasp and pin on the reverse, so is perhaps older and more likely to be Czech. This is a superb, rare brooch probably dating from the 1920s / 1930s and the classic Art Deco period of Egyptian revival jewellery: a fabulous piece of rare and collectable jewellery. It is in very good vintage condition.
