Antique Victorian sterling silver hallmarked puzzle brooch, with beautiful crafting showing the letters S, A, R and A, presumably for the name Sara unless they happened to be someone's initials. This antique brooch is typical of the puzzle pin designs found in Victorian name brooches of the later 1800s.

It is a round shape with pierced decoration; the name itself  has been arranged as a puzzle leaving anyone viewing it the fun of working out which name the letters spell.  Each individual letter has been cut out and is further decorated with various engraved patterns - a different one for each of the four letters.

This brooch is in very good vintage condition. It has a diameter of about 1.5 inches and fastens with an antique 'C' hook clasp and pin all in silver. Overall, the brooch weighs 7.5 grams. There are maker's initials ( a little worn but ending in GM) and full Birmingham hallmarks for the year 1879 (see last picture) however without the Sovereign's head stamp which was normal for that year.
