Large antique Victorian Scottish agate inset and sterling silver brooch pin

Antique Victorian Scottish agate brooch, with lovely agate pieces set on slate in unmarked sterling silver settings. It has eight shaped agate inserts forming petals around its circumference in beautiful earthy, organic agate colours. The agate pieces have nicely balanced colours and striations.

The silver components, including the pin and simple C-clasp, have been tested and are solid sterling silver - pieces like these from the times they were created by hand are not usually hallmarked. It measures about 2 inches in diameter.

This brooch is in very good vintage condition. The light yellowish agate piece furthest to the right in the initial photo has a hairline crack which I believe must have been there from the start as the glaze goes over the top and is not cracked. The slate mounting stone behind the agate pieces has a slim chip as can be seen in the photos, but the strength and integrity of the brooch is not affected at all.
