Antique Victorian moulded goldstone and gold tone brass scarab type beetle brooch

Antique Victorian brooch with moulded goldstone and brass coupled to produce a gorgeous scarab type beetle design. It fastens with a simple antique hook clasp and pin. The brooch is in good vintage condition for its age, but please check all the photos very carefully.

Goldstone is a type of glittering glass with flecks of copper made in a low-oxygen atmosphere. The finished product can take a smooth polish and be carved into beads, figurines, or other artifacts suitable for semiprecious stone, and in fact goldstone is often mistaken for or misrepresented as a natural material. Another common name for the material is aventurine glass.
