Antique Victorian bullseye banded agate onyx large oval cabochon, red and green enamel work flowers and gold necklace and bracelet set
Antique Victorian bullseye banded agate onyx large oval cabochon, red and green enamel work flowers and gold necklace and bracelet set
Fabulous antique banded agate (also known as banded onyx, but this is usually called agate in this style of jewellery) oval cabochon necklace and bracelet set. These cabochons are particularly good examples, with pale stripes around the edge of each forming a 'bullseye'. In between each agate cabochon are floral panels with pretty red and green enamelling. The settings are likely to be gold plated but I have not had the metal tested.
The necklace has a great feature - there are hooks on the reverse of the three central agate stone panels. These can be used to attach three drops, or perhaps just one central pendant or locket, as the Victorians often liked to do. I think these pieces were part of a grand parure, but that some of the pieces, including some pendant attachments, have not stayed together.
The necklace has a collar length of about 16 inches and the bracelet has a length of 7.5 inches. Each piece fastens with a beautifully engineered secure push-in box clasp that clicks into the end cabochon setting. The set is in good vintage condition. There is wear to some of the enamelled flowers - please let me know if you would like to be sent close-ups via message, as the listing itself can only carry ten photographs.
