A mourning Albert or Albertina watch chain made of woven black thread, dating from the 1800s. The main part of the Albertina is made of intricately woven black thread - I wondered if this was woven hair, either human or horse hair in memoriam. However, the woven section feels too smooth and soft to be hair and I think it may be fine silk.
A detailed pinchbeck woman's hand is threaded on the end nearest the T-bar for a buttonhole. The hook clasp at the other end is really unusual as the screw on fastener secures the hook in place.
It has a length of about 13 inches, so can be wound around twice as a bracelet as well as used as a decorative watch chain. It is in good vintage condition - please check all photos carefully.
