Antique Victorian agate natural pebble cabochon bracelet with sterling silver claw settings, Scottish style, beautiful condition, in box
Amazing and very hard to find antique Victorian agate and quartz sterling silver bracelet, with smooth agate and gemstone cabochons in different colours hand polished into stunning pebble cabochons. The colours and natural striations within the gemstone pieces are gorgeous. There are smoky grey quartz stones, rose quartz stones, green agate stones and a central carnelian stone.
The piece feels beautiful when worn - high quality and smooth. The saw-toothed bezel settings have the stones set with open backs to allow the light to penetrate. The settings have pretty engraving / repousse work around their edges. It is beautifully engineered and fastens with a secure silver spring ring clasp. The clasp is stamped 'sterling' and one of the end settings is stamped 'silver'. It has a length of about 8 inches.
This Scottish style of jewellery became widely popular in the 1850s and onwards after Queen Victoria began visiting Scotland regularly. Balmoral Castle has been the Scottish home of the royal family since it was purchased for Queen Victoria by Prince Albert in 1852, having been first leased in 1848. In the autumn of 1842, two and a half years after her marriage to Prince Albert, Queen Victoria paid her first visit to Scotland.
The bracelet is in very good vintage condition. This is a rare and stunning statement piece presented in a jeweller's hinged presentation box.
