Antique Vauxhall glass French jet riviere necklace - Victorian, black faceted glass round jet stones
Antique Vauxhall glass French jet riviere necklace - Victorian, black faceted glass round jet stones
Beautiful antique Vauxhall glass French jet riviere necklace and matching brooch from the Victorian era. Victorian French jet jewellery was inspired by pieces of mourning jewellery, which was made popular during this period as it was Queen Victoria's only jewellery following the death of her beloved husband.
The necklace has a large number of flat back faceted French jet stones, each mounted on a circular panel, which I believe are painted black on the backs with some kind of black enamel paint. The stones are all around 1cm in diameter apart from four smaller panels surrounding the spring ring clasp. Each panel is separated from the next by a small black glass spacer bead. It is 19 inches long. The brooch has three identical faceted flat backed jet stones mounted on japanned metal, just like the necklace. It is a traditional bar brooch style and is just over 1 inch in length. There are four small stones decorating the outsides in between the larger stones.
The set is in good vintage condition, especially considering its age. One stone on the necklace has a tiny chip out of its edge and there is a little looseness in the stringing. I avoided re-stringing the necklace as I wanted to keep it as original as possible, but let me know if you would like me to do this. The brooch is in excellent condition.
