Antique Vauxhall glass French jet pendant and brooch demi-parure set - Victorian, black glass floral / star burst design pendant and chain

Beautiful antique Vauxhall glass pendant and chain plus matching brooch from the Victorian era. These are lovely pieces built with layers of faceted Vauxhall glass pieces to create a flower / starburst design. I assumed the glass was black but I keep catching a hint of deep garnet red in some lights. These may be pieces of mourning jewellery, which was popular during this period and was Queen Victoria's only jewellery following the death of her beloved husband.

The large flower piece has a pendant attachment and comes with a silver or silver tone chain - I do not know if this was original to the pendant. The small spring ring clasp has a very faded stamp or hallmark that I cannot make out. I do not think the chain is silver however and an antique sterling silver or gold chain could be purchased as a more fitting accompaniment to the pendant. The pendant is in very good vintage condition, especially considering its age. There are some minor marks on the japanned reverse, which have no effect on the look of the pendant. The brooch is in acceptable vintage condition - there are some minor nibbles in the glass around the edges - but I felt it was still a nice matching piece for the pendant.
