Antique real cultured pearl necklace, large and graduated in size, hand-knotted, in jeweller's box, pretty sterling silver clasp 30 grams
Beautiful string of real cultured pearls, fastened with a beautiful engraved sterling silver and real pearl fish hook clasp. Each bead is individually hand-knotted and the quality is excellent. The beads are graduated with the largest pearl in the centre. The necklace comes in a jeweller's presentation box. The box is a black hard-shelled plastic hinged box from a jeweller's in Southport, UK. The necklace weighs 30 grams overall.
These pearls are old and I believe were cultured in sea water, though I suppose it is possible they were naturally occurring pearls as they are more uneven, however this would be incredibly rare. They are certainly not the freshwater pearls that are available quite cheaply from China and other Asian countries. The pearl embellished fish hook clasp is stamped 'silver' on the reverse. The necklace is in good vintage condition - I avoid cleaning if possible and leave vintage jewellery in its original condition. You can see the pearls are natural, real and probably very old, so there is surface unevenness on the pearls, including tiny pitted areas on one or two.
