Antique French jet riviere necklace - Victorian Vauxhall glass, black faceted glass oval jet stones

Beautiful antique Vauxhall glass French jet riviere necklace from the Victorian era. Victorian French jet jewellery was inspired by pieces of mourning jewellery, which was made popular during this period as it was Queen Victoria's only jewellery following the death of her beloved husband.

This necklace has a large number of flat back faceted French jet stones, each mounted on an oval panel, which I believe are painted black on the backs with some kind of black enamel paint. Each panel is separated from the next by a small black glass spacer bead. The necklace is in very good vintage condition, especially considering its age.
