Antique Edwardian saphiret glass paste riviere collet necklace, fabulous large stones bezel set with open backs

Absolutely stunning antique saphiret stone riviere necklace. The large, subtly graduated, faceted stones are set in silver tone. The quality of the saphiret glass is fantastic - much less opaque than many examples, with the open backed settings, the light can shine through and pick out the pink base tones and the beautiful pale aqua blue, ethereal accents.

Saphiret glass was made by adding real gold to sapphire coloured molten glass. This created an amazing colour combination. The base colour ranged from a mocha or pinkish brown to a brick red colour, but the amazing part is when light strikes the stone, the glass reflects the light as a soft blue glow. The stone can be opaque to semi-opaque.

The necklace has a choker length of about 15.5 inches, and fastens with a simple hook clasp. Please send me a message if you have any questions or would like further photographs. It will be provided with the antique box pictured - not original to the necklace, but in very good vintage condition.
